MEET PRISCILLA BETANCOURT

Science, somatic practice and a life spent curious about what makes us human.

Priscilla Betancourt has spent much of her career meeting people at moments when life suddenly looks different.

As a registered nurse working in oncology at MUSC, and through her previous work in hospice, Priscilla has experienced healthcare from an unusually human vantage point—alongside people confronting illness, uncertainty, loss, recovery and some of the biggest questions we ever ask about how we want to live.

Her years in hospice were particularly formative. Being invited into people's lives during such intimate moments shaped her understanding of care far beyond what can be measured on a chart. She saw the importance of presence, family, dignity, listening and human connection—and how dramatically our priorities can change when time and health are no longer taken for granted.

That experience became part of the foundation for SOMA².
